Here is a daily warm up/fundamental routine that you might find useful. Feel free to use as much or as little as you like! Routine is intended for advanced high school/college players.
Here is a list I have compiled that contains some of my favorite fundamental routines and exercises. Some are paid resources (worth the investment!!) and some are free to all. Happy Practicing!
Here is a fundamental routine I put together to help students as they prepare for the 2020 TMEA Region/All-State auditions. This routine combines various elements of breathing, buzzing, long tones, flexibility, articulation, dynamics, scales, arpeggios, and intervals that will all help set a solid foundation before attempting the etudes. When preparing for an audition, remember that just practicing the etudes will not necessarily make you a better trombone player, but becoming a better trombone player WILL absolutely help your performance of the etudes.
In addition to the above routine, here are a few of my favorite exercises to help facilitate the wide range required in the 2020 TMEA audition etudes. Consistent practice is the key. Be patient with yourself, the notes will come!
I compiled this list in preparation for a presentation to the Texas State Trombone Studio. Take a look when that you’re starting to get a pang of the “I don’t know what to practice…”
A short document I wrote in preparation for a lecture I gave to the Texas State low brass techniques class. It details how I introduced slurring to my students, a concept that can be difficult for some students to grasp.
If you’re like me, you see “The Rhenish” on an audition list and you cringe… well no more. Here is the excerpt written out in six different keys to allow you to modify your approach to your needs.
Alessi has a great series of videos regarding his approaching to practicing Arban on his Alessi Music Studios website. This is a practice plan that puts his videos into a document format.
